The walk to Taupo Point via the eastern shore of Wainui Bay is one the best ways to experience the beauty and variety of Golden Bay's coastline. Taking about an hour, the walk starts at the Wainui Bay entrance to Abel Tasman National Park. Long stretches of golden sand, some easy rock-hopping and, at high tide, a climb up and over a steep headland lead you to this secluded bay. The beaches on either side of Taupo Point are sheltered golden curves, their translucent blue-green waters give a distinctive tropical feel. You would be forgiven for thinking you had just walked onto a deserted beach in Thailand.
