The Abel Tasman National Park is New Zealand's smallest national park, established in 1942. It stretches from Wainui Inlet in Golden Bay (in the north), to Marahau. (In the south) The Park is renowned for its spectacular scenery, golden beaches, emerald clear water and temperate climate. ‘Summer Colours’ was inspired by a boat trip we took to Torrent Bay in search of material for a commission. The watertaxi had just dropped a family onto the beach at Bark Bay. I was instantly impressed by the contrast of the sea colour, the golden sand and the richness of the coastline forest.
