In August 2006, we drove from the West Coast of the South Island through the very icy and picturesque Arthur’s Pass en route to Christchurch. We spent a memorable few days at the Bealey River, where I photographed and sketched some of the most dramatic scenery I have seen in NZ. This is an early evening view of the Waimakariri River flanked by towering peaks of the Southern Alps.
