Peter and I have always had on our bucket list the seriously challenging tramp from the Aorere Valley to the Cobb Valley via the Douglas Range. Although the gruelling 10 hour days are probably well beyond us now and aging knees might complain, we still dream of the beautiful alpine glades, tarns and mountains of ‘up-thrust granite’ with names such as The Dragon’s Teeth and The Drunken Sailors. Our tramping these days is often with the aid of a R44 helicopter and a generous brother-in-law. This painting was done after an early morning flight to Adelaide Tarn with pilot Bill Wallace. The sun was just coming up over the mighty Dragon’s Teeth.
