I painted 'After the Rain' following a trip away in the campervan, to the West Coast. We were exploring the coastline south from Kohaihai at the beginning of the Heaphy Track when we came across this secluded beach. The sea was still raging and discoloured from the storm during the night and air was cold and crisp with the promise of a beautiful day ahead. Although'After the Rain' was very much inspired by this area, so many people have likened it to their own special place. It reminds some of Paton's Rock or leaving the lighthouse on Farewell Spit and others of their own beach at home.
