The 22nd of March is World Water Day. I recently read this post from Jim Olson, President and Founder of FLOW (For Love of Water) "For this World Water Day, let us protect water and the human right to water as a commons and public trust. The intrinsic value of all water, like life, is a gift from God, and compels us to protect water for the common good, now and for future generations. If we do this, we will make wise decisions about water, food, energy, economy, community, and peace and security. Let us start with recognising and respecting the intrinsic value of water". Such wise words as we face increasing pressure on our waterways in NZ from higher population, urban activities and intensifying agriculture. Clean water is the birth right of all of us and upon which all life depends. I only hope we have the courage and foresight to restore and protect waterways now for generations to come.
