Force of Nature

Force of Nature

This past summer in NZ was the 3rd hottest on record with temperatures 1.5 deg above average, and one of the driest with rainfall 50-79% less than normal. Our district had 40 days without rain. The unprecedented wildfires in Australia resulted from a horrific convergence of events related to weather and climate change. And today the US has reported the current lack of rainfall in the country's southwest constitutes a megadrought of a magnitude seen on only four other occasions in the past 1,200 years. We are so aware of how our own activities impact on the climate and have pledged to minimise overseas travel, grow our own food, consume less and generally minimise our footprint on the earth. This quote touched me: 'The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.'
