Mt Cook or Aoraki ‘the cloud piercer’ as it is known to Ngai Tahu, is the highest mountain in New Zealand. It lies in the Southern Alps, which runs the length of the South Island. A popular tourist destination, it is also a favourite challenge for mountain climbers. The Tasman Glacier and Hooker Glacier flow down its slopes. Our challenge on our annual campervan tour of the South Island is to reach Aoraki in perfect weather. Our timing was spot on. It really was just a perfect day. Peter painted this from Glentanner Station.
