The Tata Islands, just off Tata Beach are a popular destination for kayakers. We launch our kayaks just after sunrise, before the breeze gets up, and the sea is as smooth as silk. The steep limestone cliffs of the islands are home to a large colony of Spotted Shags. At nesting time, hundreds of chicks perch precariously on the thin rocky ledges awaiting their next feed of regurgitated fish. The Tata Islands are iconic to Golden Bay and feature often in my paintings.
