Lake Rotoiti from the Source of the Buller River

Lake Rotoiti from the Source of the Buller River

West Bay, Lake Rotoiti is the source of the Buller River. Famous for its white-water rafting, kayaking and trout fishing, this river travels over 150 km through the Buller Gorge until it meets the sea on the west coast of NZ at Westport. We wandered over a little wooden bridge that crossed the Buller River lake outlet and walked through stunted beech forest to the edge of Lake Rotoiti to see this view. The St Arnaud Range was cloaked in a fresh fall of snow and beautifully reflected in the clear still water of the lake.
