The Travers River lies within the borders of the Nelson Lakes National Park. The valley through which this river flows is popular with trampers and anglers and is part of the Travers-Sabine tramping circuit. I thoroughly enjoy painting these deep glaciated valleys and crystal clear rivers edged with tussock and matagouri; contrasting with the snow-covered summits and shingle screes, that lead into beech forest.
