Golden Bay’s west coast is a wild and exhilarating seascape. An unsealed road winds its way through the small villages of Mangarakau and Patarau once known for their thriving industries of sawmills, flax and coal mining. The road leads to the Anatori River, which is the end of the line for 2WD vehicles and to Nikau Point, a favourite camping site for my family.
