We visited friends in Alaska in June and while there we were fortunate enough to fly through Denali National Park in a small plane. We were awestruck by the majesty of the Alaskan Range and in particular Mt McKinley. In August we drove into Mt Cook on a clear day, with our daughters, son-in-law and their friends. With every turn in the road the valley opened before us and vista just kept getting better. As in Alaska, the splendour of the landscape was overwhelming but this was NZ and we felt the warm glow of Kiwi pride. The view up the Tasman Valley towards Mt Cook encompasses everything that is intrinsically 'New Zealand'.
