Old Hut, Rainbow Valley
Nelson Lakes National Park is a realist painter's paradise and often on our list of winter 'essential trips'. On this occasion we decided to explore the Wairau-Hanmer Springs Hydro Road from the gate on foot. We followed the Wairau River upstream ambling through farmland with the Raglan Range on our left and the St Arnaud Range to our right. This delightful old hut was tucked into the edge of the beech forest just past the Rainbow Ski-field turnoff.
