The Cobb Valley in Kahurangi National Park is a realist artist’s paradise. It has a diversity of natural features from rugged mountains to deep caves and rolling tussock downs. We often backpack through the Cobb Valley’s vast network of tramping tracks, staying in the excellent huts provided by the Department of Conservation. The Cobb area is rich in history and my sketchbook and camera are always on hand as we tramp the old stockmen and goldminers’ trails. We trudged through the first deep snowfall in June to reach this point. The painting shows the snow-filled valley looking towards Chaffey's Hut.
