Peter's first exhibitions in the late 1970's and early 80s featured paintings of mostly farming scenes from around the Nelson district. Iconic old sheds, letterboxes and hop kilns set against dark brooding skies. In Australia, he painted the desolate, drought-stricken farms with neglected sheds and windmills in varying states of disrepair. This painting has a similar theme without the neglect. A farmer who has sown the seed, nurtured the land and nature's abundance has been stored for winter-feed. 'The Home Paddock' is a warm, homely painting - you can almost hear the chooks in the henhouse and smell the soup on the Rayburn.
